July 4th is one of my favorite holidays.  (Though I’m pretty sure I say that about most holidays.)  I do particularly love the way that this celebration brings the country together.  It makes me happy to see everyone proudly displaying American flags in their front yard and the excitement on the kids’ faces during the firework show.

Because the fireworks don’t start until the very end of the day, I try to keep the kids entertained during the day with fun patriotic (indoor) activities like making Red, White, and Blue Cookies or our favorite Patriotic Popsicles.  This July Fourth Word Search typically keeps them quietly busy for a little while at least.

My daughter loves to do word searches- just about every “kid’s menu” has one these days.  We are on the cusp of starting to read and really working to sound out words.  We found, mostly by accident, that word searches are a great tool for this.
