Pumpkin Smoothie

Pumpkin Smoothie – an easy, protein-packed breakfast with pumpkin puree and sweetened with maple syrup.  This yummy fall treat tastes like pumpkin pie in a glass!

My kids love when I make dessert smoothies (like my Girl Scout Cookie Protein Shake) and this Pumpkin Smoothie is our newest obsession.  This yummy smoothie tastes like your favorite fall dessert all blended up– only with less fat and more protein!

Pumpkin Smoothie Ingredients

  • pumpkin puree
  • Greek yogurt (plain or vanilla)
  • apple juice or apple cider
  • whole milk (2% would be okay)
  • pumpkin pie spice
  • maple syrup (use real maple syrup for better flavor, not “breakfast syrup”)

I don’t add any banana to this smoothie so you will want to use full fat milk and thicker Greek yogurt to up the creaminess factor.  The Greek yogurt also boosts the protein.  You can also add a scoop of your favorite protein powder for additional protein.

Pumpkin Puree vs Pumpkin Pie Filling

Pumpkin puree (canned pumpkin) is simply cooked, pureed pumpkin.  Pumpkin pie filling is sweetened and flavored with spices (like cinnamon, clove, allspice and ginger).  You will want to use plain pumpkin puree for this pumpkin smoothie so you can add your own spices and control the sweetness.  I also like to make my own Pumpkin Pie Spice.

How to Make a Pumpkin Smoothie

I use my beloved Blendtec Blender to make this pumpkin smoothie.  It’s a bit pricey but we use it all the time!  In fact, it might be tied with my Instant Pot as my favorite kitchen appliance.  The Blendtec makes it so easy to whip up Creamy Potato Soup and Restaurant Style Salsa.

Serve this fall smoothie with Pumpkin Pie Spice Granola or Pumpkin Spice Muffins for a complete breakfast!
