TWIX Bites Chocolate Krispie Treats

My husband is a really simple guy.  Each year for his birthday he requests a simple yellow cake with chocolate icing.  It can’t even be a layer cake- he wants it made in a traditional 13×9 sheet pan.  And his request each year for Father’s Day?  Rice Krispie Treats.

Here I will bake anything the man wants, and he asks for boxed cake mix and one of the easiest homemade treats around.  I guess I shouldn’t complain… he’s not asking for 7-layer cakes or Macarons after all.  Sometimes simple is best, ya know?  Easy to follow, fool-proof recipes are especially great for times like this when the kiddos want to join in to make the special treats.

Another thing you should know about my husband is that he secretly LOVES candy.  You can pretty much bet he will always have something sweet in his pocket.  So when we were shopping at Walmart for the ingredients to make rice krispie treats, we had to make a stop on the candy aisle to pick up some of his favorites.  That’s when I spotted these new TWIX Bites.  I knew these would be a perfect addition to our chocolate krispie treats!

These babies come already unwrapped and ready to eat!  Love the resealable bag too, perfect when you just want a quick, little, pop-able sweetness.  Also makes it so much easier to add to recipes- no need to unwrap 30-40 candies or chop them up to be bite-size.

Mix the TWIX Bites in last, after the cereal and marshmallow mixture have had just a minute or two to cool so that you don’t totally melt them.  Cut them into squares and you should see a bite of chocolate caramel cookie goodness in each square.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups chocolate krispie cereal
  • 10 oz marshmallows
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large bag TWIX Bites

Instructions

  • Melt marshmallows, butter, and brown sugar over medium heat stirring constantly.
  • Pour melted mixture over cereal.
  • Use a greased spatula to combine.
  • Once cereal and marshmallow mixture are well combined, stir in the TWIX Bites.
  • Pour immediately into greased pan.
  • Allow to cool, cut into squares.

Notes

I use a pan lined with parchment paper and sprayed with non-stick. I also use a smaller pan than 13x9 (smaller pan = thicker treats). Spray your hands with non-stick to pat down the treats into the pan.
