Food Bloggers Against Hunger

Lately I have been making a serious effort to make a weekly meal plan and only go to the grocery store once a week.  My goal is always to stay under $100 a week and not return to the store for anything else.  I knew we weren’t going to hit that target this week because not only were we out of baby staples (formula and diapers= half my weekly budget) but we were also out of toilet paper, dish detergent, and a few other “non-weekly,” non-food, household items….

Happy Birthday to Me & Le Creuset Giveaway for You!

I can’t believe another year has passed!  I’m getting old!  I don’t know if it’s because my first baby started kindergarten this year, or if it’s because I have TWO babies now?  Somehow your kids being in school takes years off your life… the same way saying KIDS does.  I’m not considered a “college grad”, or “newlywed”, or “young mother” anymore.  I’m not “just starting out in my career”.  I’m expected to know things about taxes and fiscal cliffs and mortgage insurance and 401ks.  The teenage checkers at the grocery store call me “ma’am”.  I am officially an adult old.

But who wants to talk about that?  Not me!  I’d much rather live in denial talk about presents!  And because I love you so much, I’m giving YOU a present on MY birthday!

Isn’t she beautiful? The rich, bold color.  The sleek, shiny silver.  The signature stamp.

Doesn’t she just make you want to have a party?  The same way getting a new outfit makes you want to go somewhere just to wear it.  This is definitely a statement piece for your kitchen.  One that’s meant to be adored year round, not just brought out at the holidays.

No, she deserves a spot on the counter… I’m talking prime real estate… as in, move over stand mixer.

I received this beauty a few days ago and she has been sitting on my dining room table where I can admire her ever since.  What should I display? Cupcakes? Cookies? Appetizers? So many options.

I am a huge fan of Le CreusetI mean, I don’t know a food blogger out there that watches Pioneer Woman without secretly openly coveting her gorgeous collection.  They are famous for their bold and bright cookware and bakeware.  Another awesome feature is their partnership with No Kid Hungry.  I hosted a bakesale last year to support this worthy cause so it makes me really excited to see them also support Share Our Strength.  If you purchase their exclusive Mini Cocottes, Le Creuset will donate $20 of every sale to the campaign.  Great deal all the way around!

I received a product for review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

My Heart is Broken

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:10

I make it a point to never see the news. I don’t read it online. I don’t watch it on TV. I am blissfully ignorant to the world around me. Until I am reminded; in an overwhelming, all-consuming way, that I can’t protect myself from this fallen world that we live in. No more than I can protect my children from it.

There are things that happen that get added to the scrapbook of your life. A snapshot in time. A before and an after. Today is one of those days.

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

When I saw the vague “prayers for Connecticut” statuses begin to pop up on Facebook, I was able to piece together the story. I didn’t know how bad it was. I didn’t know the specifics. And I didn’t need to. I thought, I can just say a prayer and log off of Facebook for the day.

Until I saw the ages.

And I could no longer distance myself from the tragedy. Instead I shut my laptop, walked out of my office, and drove home to get my babies. I called my Mom on the way. I hesitated for a second before pushing the “call” button. I didn’t want to talk about it. I didn’t want to have that conversation. How do you have that conversation?

My heart is so broken.

I heard the words of our President, experiencing this as a parent, just as I was. I saw the woman down the street from me lower her flag to half-staff.

I picked up my daughter from school today.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27

At the end of the day, I have to accept that bad things happen. Bad things happen to good people, bad things happen to innocent children, bad things happen to bad people. And there’s not a single thing I can do to stop it, except turn to the Lord. I pray for peace. I pray for salvation. I pray for hope.

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

So tonight, I am helpless, but I am not hopeless.

“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.” Isaiah 12:2

If you are looking for ways to help in the wake of this tragedy, consider giving to the Newton Youth and Family Services.

Free Social Media Icons

One of the most important aspects to consider in blog design is having well thought out social media icons.  You want them to be easily accessible (above the fold) and large without being distracting.  The most important thing is that you test all of your links and ensure that they go to the appropriate social network!

I have created 4 sets of social media icons.  Each set includes Facebook, Twitter, RSS, Etsy, Pinterest, E-mail, and Instagram.  Each icon is a 50×50 PNG file….

Did I really just make a blog? Yep, and even worse- a Twitter!

Hello friends. Before 2010 comes to an end, I decided to jump on the bandwagon (blogwaggon?) and start my own blog. Every time I talk to my mom (Hi, Mom. I know you are probably blog-stalking as I type) she always tells me that I should start a blog to chronicle my crazy life. Personally, I like to think that it’s the people in my life and the situations that I find myself in that are crazy… not me. Ha :)
