Ingredients

Apple Compote

  • 3 Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 3 tbsp butter, unsalted
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

French Toast

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 8 slices Sara Lee® Artesano™ Golden Wheat Bread

Instructions

  • Combine apples, butter, brown sugar, and 1/2 tsp cinnamon in a medium saucepan over low heat.
  • Simmer for 20-30 minutes, or until the apples mash easily into a rough paste, leaving some apple chunks throughout.
  • Remove the apples from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  • While the apples cool, beat the eggs, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla together in a shallow bowl.
  • Gently dip the bread into the egg mixture, carefully coating each side.
  • Cook the coated bread on a griddle or in a large pan over medium heat until each side is golden brown, approximately 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Top cooked French toast with the apple compote and serve immediately.  Syrup optional.
