You know the saying “if you build it, they will come?”  In our house it’s more like “if you buy all the fruit, they will eat all the fruit.”  I buy tons of berries, apples, oranges, grapes, etc every week and my kiddos gobble it up in no time.  My oldest is able to prep and wash her own fruit, but I’ve noticed that my middle is a lot more apt to eat it when I’ve taken the steps to get it ready for her.

I use these new BRILLIANCE food storage containers to prep all of my fruit.  They are designed with an airtight seal and innovative latches with 100% leak-proof guarantee; so I’m not afraid to use them with messy leftovers like my Bacon Baked Beans.

I love that the BRILLIANCE containers are crystal clear so I can easily see the contents and are made of stain resistant materials (so they won’t turn red after storing my One Skillet Baked Spaghetti.)  They come in five sizes to hold all types of foods and are also available in multi-piece sets, which stack perfectly together.

After I soak all of my berries in my favorite fruit and veggie wash, I rinse and dry them before storing them in my Rubbermaid containers.  Sometimes I will go ahead and slice the strawberries if I know they will be eaten that day — it makes them much easier for the kiddos to grab and go.

If we have a variety of fruit that needs to be eaten quickly I will toss it all together to make a fruit salad.  Sometimes I just sprinkle a scant teaspoon or so of sugar in to help macerate the fruit a bit, but lately we’ve been obsessed with this super simple honey lime dressing.

It’s just honey + lime and a little pinch of salt, but it is Heaven over fresh fruit!

My leak-proof food storage containers make preparing fruit salad a snap. Literally.  Just add in whatever fruit you want with the dressing, snap on the lid, toss well, and done!

How to Make Fruit Salad

This easy recipe has two main components: the mixed fruit and the fruit salad dressing. Here are the basic steps to making both:

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the fruit salad dressing (honey, lime juice and zest, and salt).
  2. Add the prepared fruit to a large bowl and mix to combine.
  3. Drizzle with honey lime dressing and toss to coat.
  4. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

How Long Does Fruit Salad Last?

This fruit salad with honey lime dressing will last up to 5 days if stored in an airtight container in the fridge. The fresh fruit will release some of its juices over time, which will pool at the bottom of the container. When this occurs, simply stir the honey lime fruit fruit salad to redistribute the juices.

Can I Use Different Kinds of Fruit?

Absolutely! We use this honey lime dressing with fresh berries all the time, but it is also delicious over grapes and apples as well.

Tips for the Best Fruit Salad

Fresh fruit is a must in this fruit salad recipe. The type of fruit you use is really up to you, but fresh is best.

Be sure to wash your lime under warm water before zesting it. Also, buy an organic lime if possible since you’ll be eating the zest.

You could totally serve this honey lime fruit salad over a bed of baby spinach and throw in some chopped walnuts for a yummy lunch.
